Dr. Sky (Back) and Dr. Do

Dr. Margaret "Muggy Do" Dickinson, Ph.D. (Dr. Do) is a third generation Washingtonian and Dr. Sirkku M. Sky Hiltunen, Ph.D., Ed.D., RDT-BCT, ATR-BC, BCPC, MT, BCPC, LPC (Dr. Sky) is a native born Finn. The two met in 1972 in Ringwood, England at the Camphill community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In 1975 they founded one of the first group homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Finland on the Russian border. In 1977 they moved to the U.S. to continue their studies and earn their doctorates.

Dr. Do fulfilled her doctoral internship with the President's Committee on Mental Retardation and worked as the special assistant to the administrator of the Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Administration (currently The Department on Disability Services, DDS) of the District of Columbia.

In 1985, two years after receiving her first doctorate, Dr. Sky founded and managed the first Art and Drama Therapy Institute, Inc., which was renamed as Therapy Theater Company, Inc. (TTC) a nonprofit company that provided art and drama therapy services and produced innovative public Therapeutic Noh Theater® performances featuring adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 1991, the current Art and Drama Institute, Inc. (ADTI) was founded by Drs. Do and Sky. Dr. Do serves as the company's CEO, president, and program director, while Dr. Sky serves as executive vice president, and executive arts director. The current ADTI has earned local, national, and international acclaim especially for its music and theater programs.

Starting in 1988, Dr. Sky has studied Noh chanting and dancing in Kyoto, Nara, and Fukuyama, Japan. However, her first exposure to the Classic Noh Theater took place in Helsinki, Finland in 1967 when a Japanese Noh Theater Ensemble visited Helsinki for the first time. Japanese Noh Theater sparked her imagination and creativity to develop and apply Noh Theater in Western Therapeutic Theater context. Thus, Dr. Sky is the Creator, Developer and the Master Teacher of NohKiDo®, Therapeutic Noh Theater®, and SohKiDo®.
